Ukraine Army repels enemy attacks near nine settlements – General Staff

Over the past day, the Ukrainian military have repelled enemy attacks near nine settlements, namely the Luhansk region’s Bilohorivka and the Donetsk region’s Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Klishchiivka, Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, Nevelske, Opytne and Marinka.

The relevant statement was made by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook as of 06:00 a.m., October 20, 2022, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Russian troops are trying to hold the temporarily occupied areas, focusing efforts on restraining the actions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces in certain directions, and continue attempts to conduct offensive actions in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka directions.

In violation of international humanitarian law, the laws and customs of war, the enemy continues to strike critical infrastructure and civilian houses.

Over the past day, Russian invaders have launched 11 missile strikes and 28 air strikes on Ukraine’s territory, and opened fire with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) over 65 times.

Over 25 settlements came under enemy fire, namely the Ivano-Frankivsk region’s Burshtyn, the Vinnytsia region’s Ladyzhyn, the Dnipropetrovsk region’s Zelenodolsk, the Donetsk region’s Siversk, Sloviansk and Terny, the Zaporizhzhia region’s Znachkove, and the Kherson region’s Davydiv Brid. Russian occupiers used cruise, air-launched and anti-aircraft guided missiles, as well as over 10 Iranian-manufactured Shahed-136 suicide drones (half of them – from the territory of Belarus).

In the Volyn, Polissia and Siverskyi directions, the situation remained rather unchanged.

In other directions, Russian troops opened fire as follows:

in the Slobozhankskyi direction – near such settlements as the Kharkiv region’s Hoptivka, Hrianykivka, Kolodiazne, Krasne, Ohirtseve and Strilecha, with different artillery systems;

in the Kupiansk and Lyman directions – near the Kharkiv region’s Berestove, Kyslivka and Pershotravneve, the Luhansk region’s Kovalivka, Novoiehorivka and Novoliubivka, and the Donetsk region’s Zarichne, Terny and Torske, with cannon and rocket artillery;

in the Bakhmut direction – near the Donetsk region’s Andriivka, Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Bilohorivka, Zelenopillia, Klishchiivka, Kurdiumivka, Pivnichne, Maiorsk, New York, Soledar and Yakovlivka, with tanks and artillery;

in the Avdiivka direction – near the Donetsk region’s Avdriivka, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, Opytne, Krasnohorivka, Marinka and Novomykhailivka, with tanks, mortars, cannon and rocket artillery.

In the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia directions, Russian troops did not take active offensive actions. Over 20 settlements came under enemy fire all over the contact line, namely the Donetsk region’s Velyka Novosilka, Vremivka, Vuhledar and Zolota Nyva, and the Zaporizhzhia region’s Mykilske, Orikhiv and Chervone.

In the Southern Bug direction, Russian invaders continue to set up defensive positions. The enemy is opening fire on settlements all over the contact line in order to hold back the Ukrainian Army’s counteroffensive.

According to the preliminary data, the leadership of Iran and the Russian Federation agreed to send UCAV instructors and advisors to Russia. In particular, Shahed-136 and Arash-2 operators are known to have been undergoing training so far.

There is a high risk of Russia’s shelling of civilian objects in the Kherson region. In the morning of October 19, 2022, Russian occupiers spread fake reports among Nova Kakhovka residents about the Ukrainian Army allegedly preparing to open fire.

According to the confirmed data, in recent days, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have struck enemy personnel and military equipment clusters in the Zaporizhzhia region. Up to 150 Russian soldiers were injured, and about 15 military equipment units were destroyed.

Over the past day, Ukrainian air forces have launched 10 strikes on enemy positions. Six enemy ammunition and military equipment clusters were confirmed as hit, as well as four air defense missile system positions. The Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense units shot down six enemy cruise missiles, one Ka-52 attack helicopter and 16 UAVs (including 14 Shahed-136 drones).

Ukraine’s missile and artillery units struck three Russian command posts, six personnel, ammunition and military equipment clusters, one ammunition depot, one electronic warfare system and six other important targets, including a bridge and pontoon crossing used by Russian invaders.
